how about reading: The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wrobleski? It has good reviews in library literature

I also would like to read The adventures of Edgar Sawtelle and the Elephant and the Dragon by Robyn Meredith.

Of very high interest for our students would be Cry Me a River by Ernest Hill. The book was well-reviewed by the Times. This tale takes place in Louisianna; a father returns home after having served 10 years in prison, only to find that his son is soon to be executed for having raped and murdered a young woman. There are several copies of the book in the county library and a couple in the district libraries. It's a fast-paced read that would make a excellent addition to the alternative list for summer reading.

Bang! is a book that is the new district initiative. All 7th grade students in our district were required to read this over the past month. Then the students were invited to a "talk with the author on Dec.1". The district is trying to use the book to increase literacy and reduce violence.

I suggest we read Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk. Yes this is the same guy who wrote Haunted, but it is a different kind of book. It will be a relatively quick read for those in the Book Club and it could be of interest to our students for Summer Reading.

I think we need to remember that we are somewhat trying to pick books that will appeal to our students. That being said, we should probably pick books that are not so long they would discourage our students. This is around 300 pages, but is very quick to get through.

What book is about animals dying?

And again, let's think about books our kids would like to read.

I checked Nightwatch on amazon.com and it is not available new. Also, the used copies were pricey.
